If you choose to report, try not to wash, shower, or change clothes before a medical examination. This can help preserve crucial evidence.

About GVRC
The Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC) is the pioneer organization on matters Gender Based Violence management in Kenya.
It is a non-profit making, non-partisan; charitable trust of the NF–Gender Violence Recovery Centre. GVRC’s purpose is to bring back meaning to the lives of survivors and their families through the provision of comprehensive free medical treatment and psychosocial support to survivors who have suffered any form of violence such as sexual, physical, psychological, or emotional abuse. GVRC has become a centre of excellence on GBV issues and management in Kenya.

Comprehensive Support
Through The Healing Journey
Medical Support
GVRC provides free medical care to approximately 3,600 survivors annually. Services include PEP, emergency contraception, fistula care, Hepatitis B vaccinations, and lab tests.
Psychological & Social Support
Survivors receive both individual and group therapy, including specialized support groups. Survivors are assisted with temporary shelter, court testimony, and referrals to legal aid and long-term services.
Emergency Response
GVRC provides urgent medical and psychosocial care during national crises and conflict, such as the 2007/08 post-election violence and the 2013 Westgate attack, while also preserving vital legal evidence.
Primary Prevention
Through behavior change communication (BCC), GVRC conducts community awareness campaigns, barazas, school activities, and training programs targeting at-risk populations, service providers, and local institutions.
Capacity Enhancement
GVRC builds the capacity of healthcare professionals and institutions to manage GBV cases effectively. It has helped establish GBV centers across Kenya and in East and Central Africa.
Legal Aid & Advocacy
Using evidence-based advocacy, GVRC has influenced national legislation and policy, including the Sexual Offenses Act and PADV Bill. It also contributed to key reforms like the gazettement of the revised Post Rape Care Form.
